International Yoga Day
On June 21st, 2025, the Faculty of Business Administration (FOBA) at GLS University commemorated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of purpose, organizing a well-structured and engaging one-hour yoga session from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM on the university lawn. This global event, recognized annually, highlights the ancient practice of yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being, integrating physical, mental, and spiritual development. At FOBA, the celebration was aimed not only at spreading awareness about the importance of yoga but also at actively encouraging students to incorporate it into their daily lives to cope with academic stress and lead a balanced lifestyle. A small yet highly motivated group of six to seven students from the faculty participated in the session, demonstrating a sincere commitment to health and mindfulness. The session was conducted under the expert guidance of a certified yoga instructor who carefully designed a flow that was suitable for both beginners and those with prior experience. It commenced with light stretching and warm-up exercises to prepare the body and reduce the risk of injury. This was followed by the demonstration and practice of key yoga asanas, including Tadasana (Mountain Pose), which helps improve posture and focus; Vrikshasana (Tree Pose), known for enhancing balance and concentration; Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog), which strengthens the arms and spine while relieving tension; and Shavasana (Corpse Pose), which encourages deep relaxation and bodily awareness. Each posture was explained in detail, with emphasis on its physical benefits and mental impact, helping participants connect movement with mindful breathing. The session then transitioned into pranayama, or controlled breathing techniques, such as Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing) and Kapalbhati (Skull Shining Breath), both of which are widely recognized for improving lung capacity, calming the mind, and energizing the body. These exercises served as a bridge between the physical postures and the final segment of the session, which was a brief yet impactful meditation practice. During meditation, students were guided to focus inward, promoting a sense of calm, clarity, and emotional stability. Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing that the session left them feeling refreshed, mentally clear, and physically energized. Several students also noted that beginning the day with yoga helped them maintain better focus throughout the day and inspired them to adopt yoga more regularly. The faculty’s initiative to host this event not only celebrated a significant international observance but also reinforced its commitment to fostering holistic student development. By providing a platform for experiential learning beyond academics, FOBA highlighted the value of integrating wellness into education. The International Yoga Day celebration ultimately served as a reminder of the importance of self-care, mindfulness, and physical fitness in shaping well-rounded, resilient individuals. Through this initiative, the Faculty of Business Administration effectively promoted a culture of health and well-being, leaving a lasting impression on the participating students and encouraging a lifestyle anchored in balance and inner harmony.
